Steps to transfer a .nz domain name
- Create an account at a domain name registrar
(if you don't already have one)
- Log in to the account and click on the "transfer domain" link
(or similarly named, depending on which registrar you use).
- Follow the instructions shown by your registrar - i.e. enter the domain name and UDAI into the relevant fields.
- Pay any transfer fees if necessary
(most NZ regisrars do not charge a fee for domain transfers).
- If you have entered the domain name and UDAI correctly then you should receive an acceptance email from your registrar within a day.
What is a UDAI?
UDAI stands for Unique Domain Authentication Identifier. It is a unique code of letters and numbers, like a password, which enables a domain name to be unlocked and transferred to a different account.
UDAIs are given to domain registrants when they first register their domain and a new one is automatically generated once the domain name has been transferred to a different entity.
